During Andy Cohen‘s Watch What Happens Live! New Year’s Eve Party, there was some palpable friction between Nene Leakes and Lisa Vanderpump when Andy mentioned that the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills had the highest ratings for the Housewives’s franchises (or something to that effect… I’m not quoting here!). Nene took offense at this remark and was clearly annoyed with Lisa throughout the evening… So, which franchise has the highest ratings?
The Real Housewives of Atlanta repeatedly delivers Bravo’s highest rated Sunday telecasts ever among all key demos, with three consecutive episodes delivering the highest-rated, unscripted cable entertainment telecast of the week among the coveted 18-49 demographic. Obviously, there are still avid viewers of RHOA this season as Sunday’s episode, which included Phaedra’s “SipnSee” and the start of the Kandi/Kim promotional bus tour, drew 3.35 million viewers, the most in the show’s three-year history. Clearly, Bravo moving the show mid-season from Monday to Sunday has been a rousing success.

However, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills premiere episode attracted an impressive 3.5 million total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Last week’s episode, the 9pm hour attracted 2.16 million total viewers, up double digits compared to the last original episode (12/23/10 with 1.81 million), as well as became the highest rated episode for the series among adults 18-49 with 1.51 million, a 39 percent increase among this since the last original episode.
It goes without saying from these statistics that comparing these two franchises is trying to compare peaches to diamonds. They’re both good (Yum, peaches… Yum, diamonds!) and necessary (Yes, necessary! What would Atlanta be without peaches and what would Beverly Hills be without diamonds?) to Bravo’s ratings success, but each is equally or more successful than the other in varied demographics.
NOTE re RHOBH: The penultimate episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”, airing tonight, follows Camille’s own realization that there are cracks in her marriage to Kelsey (Who didn’t see that coming! Hmm…Allison Dubois, where were your phychic powers???) while Taylor looks for ways to resolve some of her own marital strife. It’s another emotional event for the Richards’ family as Kyle’s oldest daughter Farrah graduates from college – the first in the family to do so. But Kyle is upset that her nieces Paris and Nicky choose a trip to Europe over the family milestone.

NOTE re RHOA: Two more episodes of the Real Housewives of Atlanta are scheduled, followed by two reunion episodes and a “lost footage” episode that takes the show to Feb. 13. The reunion shows are scheduled to be taped today and tomorrow… maybe that’s the reason for Kandi’s new ‘do’? (Kandi’s new hairstyle: http://stoopidhousewives.wordpress.com/2011/01/13/is-this-kandi-she-got-a-new-look/)
NOTE to Nene: No need to be annoyed with any of the Housewives from other franchises… you have enough to be annoyed at within your own Altanta Housewives cast mates/colleagues. And, maybe it was the alcohol talking on WWHL New Year’s Eve Party…
