UPDATE: Now that Matthew was killed off for accepting better acting opportunities last season…he left for his love the theater, or more specifically a role on Broadway. Dan Stevens has also been cast as Julian Assange in a movie about the Wikileaks founder to be filmed late 2013.
Downton Abbey “Season One” was really only supposed to be a six-episode miniseries… just like the Miami Housewives! When it became popular, ITV scrambled to sign the cast for two more seasons. So Dan Stevens/Matthew Crawley never really intended for this type of time committment and left at the end of his contract, as did Jessica Findlay-Brown (LadySybil).
Have spent a few hours attempting to peer into the mind of creator/producer/writer Julian Fellowes via ESP, meditation and just staring at his picture as a break from staring at photos of MissAndy…
… and have surmised the following as a possible conclusion to the series end:
PREDICTION: Everything at DowntonAbbey will go along swimmingly with the heir to the Downton estate firmly established when born to LadyMary… a baby who looked nothing like either Matthew or Mary, but that’s beside the point! Is there some reason that the casting director chose kids who are genetically opposite in looks to their parents??
However, as you know, nothing glides along swimmingly forever.
IMO, the big conclusion to Downton Abbey will be Patrick Gordon (who was rescued from dying after the Titanic sunk and was an amnesiac who settled in Canada) coming BACK to Downton with his true identity documented.
All of Downton will be in an elegant tizzy, especially LadyMary, who thought she had the estate firmly in her beaded bag.
Now-identified-heir-to-Downton Patrick will request Lady Edith’s hand in marriage… the forever-doomed-to-be-a-spinster-and-unlucky-in-love Edith will finally edge out her sister, Mary! Lady Edith and NOT Lady Mary will be in charge of Downton… living very happily with the man who has loved Edith since they were children!
There are at least two more seasons of plots and subplots to watch before this conclusion… if it happens at all! However, what would be better as a Downton Abbey finale???
NOTE: Julian Fellowes has been hired to write a US version of DowntonAbbey titled “Gilded Age” and has said that he cannot write “Downton” and also write “Gilded.” There WILL be a Season Five of DowntonAbbey; however, Julian Fellowes has stated that he is unsure if Downton will continue after Season Five… we’ll see!
