WHY? Because Sacramento LOVED their Kings basketball team and da Maloof’s just sealed the much-rumored deal… selling the team to Chris Hansen (NO… not the moronic Predator guy!) and Steve Ballmer from Microsoft.

The Maloof family has agreed to sell the Sacramento Kings to hedge fund manager Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Balllmer for $525 million, plus a relocation fee that will likely be well in excess of $30 million, according to my sources familiar with the transaction.

With the exception of Adrienne, the family had already sold off their Beverly Hills properties to save some money, and I believe SH reported that Adrienne is now renting. Why Adrienne would want anyone thinking she could even conceive of dating someone who looks young enough to be her son, and dresses young enough to be her grandson, is anyone’s guess. Seems to me she needs to focus on rebuilding the family fortune.

Doesn’t the relocation fee got to the NBA? I’m not terribly happy about the sale, and as a voter here in King County, Washington (where the team will be located), we’ve already made it clear that we will not foot the bill for a new stadium, so I hope this agreement did not include it, since the Maloof’s tried very hard to get a hew stadium in Sacramento! I wonder how low of a percentage the Maloof’s are left with, and how much debt they have to cover before they recover a profit?
By the way, according to King 5 news here in Seattle, Hansen and Ballmer purchased 65% of the team, which means that they paid 65% of the sale price. Also even with them selling the kings they have to pay back major debt on the team and on other things and since giving up the beer distributorship (guaranteed money every year) they are running on fumes.

Just a thought. New taxes come in to play in Jan 2013. Maybe they want to dump most of their assets before that happens. Lots of money advisors are telling people to sell now rather than 2013.
I am a sac native and kings fan…this has been a long time coming but it does not make me any less heart broken. And on another note, I stayed at the Palms a couple years ago and it was totally disgusting. Filthy. I was “lucky” enough to eat dinner next to George Maloof and he was a total tool.
