1) If you didn’t know this already, MeGo and JoGo are promoting the sale of hoodies to benefit residents of New Jersey… being made by BlueLinePrinting.
Not so fast, slick!! Here are the details about how much money is going to people affected by Hurricane Sandy. Can we say “taking advantage of a very sad situation?”
NOTE: Wouldn’t the hurricane victims benefit much better from a direct contribution to a reputable charity? Cut out the middleman…
2) Joe Gorga’s father has been in the hospital. Tests are still being run on Joe and Teresa Giudice’s elderly father. MeGo responded to someone on twitter re visiting her father-in-law:

The hoodie probably costs about $5 to make, right? So that’s $10 to the victims and $10 profit. Pretty slick scheme.
My thoughts as well. I’d rather give $25 to my favorite charity versus buying a hoodie.

Lisa, I do not necessarily think they are pocketing money. I get frustrated that I want the people who need help to get the whole $25, but hopefully they are getting more donations than selling shirts!
I agree Lisa. Just because the Gorgas are backing a product doesnt mean they profit. No idea how much the shirts cost, depending on quality, I am saying by the time they buy the hoodies and t’s, do the print, there will be little profit. Clothing prices have jumped tremendously in the last 18 months. I would say any profit would be Bluewav.
The t-shirt might cost two bucks if they do their own screen printing. Since their is only one version ,restore the shore. without any variation in color or printing it would be super duper inexpensive. I am curious if anyone has trademarked that phrase? I’m thinking you nailed the profit margin HERS.

That’s with CustomInk making a profit. I think that’s the point people are making. Somebody is making a profit off of this. Honestly if I’m going to spend $25.00 to “restore the shore” I’m going to donate it to something where much more of the $25.00 is actually going to the cause.
But if the $25.00 went directly to the cause, you wouldn’t get a neato sweatshirt to wear and show the world what caring and generous person you are.

Yeppers gang marched down to the local jewelry store to buy the engraved bread and butters when Momma figured I was of age and a young lady. More like Tomboy hell on wheels but Momma had her illusions. LOL. Even tho she is in heaven my fingers itch as a reminder to send the note AT ONCE. She made me sit down with a list 5 minutes after we got home from the honeymoon. Momma had a take no prisoners attitude when it came to the dictums of Miss Emily Post.

Thank you notes are a thing of the past. Except for family and our closest, well-bred friends, we never receive them anymore. Don’t get me started…
I wonder if Teresa and Melissa make their kids write thank you notes.
I was taught and so taught my son that before he cashed a check or pocketed gift money or played with whatever people sent him for presents, he wrote out a thank you note. If the people were at our house, of course he would thank in person. We still do that, doesn’t everyone?
Just finished untying my son from the chair because he’s finishing his thank you notes. It does seem to be a lost art nowadays. It doesn’t require a lot of effort yet people don’t seem to think it’s necessary.
Hers I still have thank you notes my hubs wrote in first, second and third grade to his Gammy . She passed and his mother repoed the old thank yous. Those old notes are a kick! My pet peeve is when brides fail to send thank you notes. I give new mommies a pass…
Hers: Whaaat??!! When did that happen?? A personal note will never be a thing of the past… just a short few sentences, slip that note in an envelope and put a stamp on it. See how quick that was?? And, it’s so nice to give! TFC!!! SH
I have to agree. If I dont get one for a gift I have sent, I have no problem asking if they got the gift and why they didnt let me know. My daughter married recently and they sat down with her gift list and personally sent each a note about the gift. Hubby kept complaining and she said, when someone is nice enough to give you a gift, be classy enough to say thank you. It made me feel really good and he stopped the whining.
Oh–years ago my late husband’s best friend got married across the country. We flew out there, got a hotel room and gave a very generous gift. No thank you note. The following year, she had a baby and a baby shower. Sent a generous gift No thank you note. To this day I am disgusted by it.
I agree. Hopefully I have pounded that into my kids heads, all of them. You always are thankful for what others give you.

I am proud to announce I sent gifts to my Friend in NJ for her baby shower(at the brownstone no less) and within one week I got a handwritten non generic thank you card. So some people are still being raised right.
I love getting those notes. Makes my day and proves to me that they appreciate my gift. Its just classy

Yep. Speaking of digital age my daughter just committed a Facebook faux pas this last year by not sending her granny birthday wishes online. In this day and age electronic correspondence must be kept up as well as the hand written stuff.

My mom expects a phone call on her birthday. She loves to email, but she will not text. I set up a Facebook for her so she could look at pictures the family posts. She didn’t like people friend requesting her so she stopped looking at Facebook.
Then again my momma also taught me “If you cant say something nice dont say anything at all” and obviously I blew that one all to hell on here when I bring hometruths to these HWs.

I would rather just donate the $25 to a victim of Sandy who needed it, but I know there are lots of people who would like the T and sweatshirt and would be much more likely to buy one of these for themselves rather than just donate money. So they get a T or sweatshirt and hopefully a charity that really does something for the victims get, what, $15 per or $5 per T. This is better than nothing, which is exactly what many people, sadly, would give! I find the G’s, all of them, very sketchy, but if this raises more money for the people who need it, more power to them.

Does anyone know the best way to really find out where and how charitable donations are processed?
I posted on a other thread. I use the American Institute for philanthropy http://www.charitywatch.org
They break down costs, etc. so even if ur charity isn’t listed u can use the stas to measure other charities.
There’s also one called charitynavigator.org
I hope the Lauritas are not involved with the t-shirt sale. After all, they never paid Susan G. Komen $18,000 from their shirt sales.
While no one can be sure how the money the gorga tweeted “charity” will be dispersed, here are my problems:
It’s not a charity, it’s a store – a printer (probably silking the t-shirts) . This is not a 501(c)3. So there will be no way to see how they performed.
On Facebook they say the contributions will be “hand-donated”. ???
On the website for “restore the shore” they say the net contributions will be passed onto Red Cross.
Those two conflicting peices of information make me go hmmmm….
There’s good reason to wanting to donate as close to the person in need as possible – particularly in disaster relief. But for me, money is a limited resource and I too have been effected by the storm (I still have my home and only one family member has been displaced – I’m blessed) so for my money I’d rather give someone money directly – give someone – not “donate”. And you won’t see my picture or a tweet about it. FFS … For those not in the area who hae posted so many sweet notes to your fellow commenters. Thank you. It truly does give a lift to the spirit – even if the comment wasn’t meant for you.

rho, sorry you were hit by the storm. So many people have lost so much. I don’t live in the area, so I have to donate, but it sure isn’t to a group that isn’t a 501 (c) 3. Hope you and your family are back to normal soon.

On anther note, I noticed that Jac Lauritas getting exactly what she aske for – lots of people are asking her to clearinghouse their requests and pass them on and try to connect people. I haven’t checked to see if she’s responded and created these connections, but a part of me did have to chuckle. I envision Jac sitting there all happy with her tweeting “contribution” about blk vans, cacaface, etc. when all of a sudden her twitter blows up and she’s asked to do something. I see her bored look as she clicks the sound off and lays back down on the couch. lol. Sometimes u need to amuse yourself and make urself laugh. I hope she’s doing things for the people who ask. But if not, (smdh).

It was bad enough when people would say “oh, it depresses me so much to come over here and look at all the damage”…..GRRRRRRRRR!
I’ve been thinking long and hard about the Jetty T shirts for $20.00. Only $8.00 is going to the cause and that is to buy things for those in need. No money is going to them. I am not going to do it. I will wait until WalMart comes out with the shirts. I would rather get a gift card and take it to a drop off point where I know someone who is in need will get it. Right now we have all we need but as Christmas comes children are going to need toys. I’m going to wait.
The NJ Devils took trucks load of stuff down to the Toms River Elks and so did Ty Pennington.
Very good point. Children will need toys. To think of them doing without this Christmas is just heartbreaking. Very good suggestion. Thanks for reminding us to not forget about their needs at Christmas.
The USMC also does a good job with Toys for Tots.
Our Marines do a great job collecting and distributing toys every year and it is in full swing already. In our mid-Atlantic region, they will be doing even more this year in order to assist the groups in NJ, as will the Boy Scouts who assist them.
Barb, I’ll echo MP, that is a great point because this kind of thing is traumatic to kids….my son could not deal with wind for a few years let alone an EMS warning on tv…..the kids need some sort of normal (whatever that is from here on out) and toys for Christmas need to happen. heck thanksgiving dinner should happen….somewhere….I know Salvation Army was wonderful to us…the best food ever!….but toys……10millions thumbs up to your idea.
Not to worry no one will go hungry. Food baskets are being prepared and for those without a home they will also be with their families at another families home. We are strong. NO ONE WILL GO HUNGRY. NO ONE.

Mego will never be able to go back. Being on RHONJ defines her now. If she ever does get a job it will be on her resume. It will be told to EVERY new person she meets. When she’s old and gray she will tell HW stories to her grandchildren. She will use it to try and get out of traffic tickets and she will have it inscribed on her tombstone.

Cant take your cell phone into most Hospitals
Well, just ’cause you aren’t suppose to, doesn’t mean……..
Spent several weeks visiting Sis in hospital recently and we used our cells in regular private room but had to be switched off when visiting intensive care.
True. And where I live, doctors routinely walk around talking on their cell phones in hospitals. Some of the more modern rooms have actual charging stations built into the overbed tables for patients to plug in their cell phones. There may be “no cell phone” signs on the entrance doors, but this rule is hardly followed by even the staff, let alone the visitors. And they have found that most medical machines are not affected by cell phone use.
We did a bar crawl a couple of years ago and decided to raise money for breast cancer while we were at it. A local guy who does T-shirts for our softball teams offered to do a bunch of tshirts for 2 bucks a shirt, we charged 12 a shirt and donated the other 10 to a local breast cancer charity plus along our route people were not only buying tshirts but giving us money to donate. We went through almost 300 T-shirts too lol If this company really wanted to help they would have done the shirts/hoodies dirt cheap and donated ALL the proceeds except cost…there is no profit to be made imo when it comes to helping out any type of cause!!
