I don’t understand what the “gay agenda” is. There is no agenda; gay people are a reality not an agenda.
The ‘gay agenda’ ….. all of the ladies us the show as a platform for something, Andy uses the show as a platform for gays, which is fine and I don’t blame him for taking the opportunity. I think people are bothered by it at times because sometimes favoritism might be shown, or the people seem to be mushed into the show without any real place. Like Greg, why do we see so much of him, why is he ALWAYS with the Manzos? Just because he is gay and Bravo wants some exposure for gays? I think this bothers people sometimes because for a lot of us, gays are accepted, acknowledged and are part of our everyday world. We don’t need to highlight the issue anymore, they’re equal, they’re accepted….. but the truth is, it IS still a battle and there is still a lot of changes that need to be made. So while a lot of us feel like the issue has been dealt with, it is over and we’ve moved on, it isn’t really so….. I do think the fact that SO many people are past it, accept it and wish well on the gay community says a lot about how much was accomplished though.

Greg is a family friend; it would be an agenda if he wasn’t a friend and Bravo introduced Greg to the Manzo family so that he would be on tv. Same with Rosie; she is Kathy’s sister so of course she would be on tv. For me, it is akin to someone saying that there is a “Black Agenda” on the RHW of Atlanta because most of them are Black, but Blacks only make up a small % of America. Same can be said about a “Jewish Agenda” because they too make an even smaller % of the American population, but they are well represented on tv. Look at the “gay men” being portrayed on Real Housewives of Atlanta. They have Derick J, Miss Laurence and Dwight, it’s not like every gay man has to be outlandish and run around wearing high heels and doing the whole queen diva act. But that is the way Andy is representing the community. If I were a newcomer to this country, and saw that show, I would think that all gay men acted outlandish. Never mind that there are so many professional, well groomed and cultured gay men that want to be known for their accomplishments and not their sexual orientation.

ITA with Bizzy !Andy goes for the over the top stereotype , the Drag Queen variety when he could just as easily choose a member of the gay community who is more representative of the community at large. I have friends who are lifetime partners and are in committed relationships, well educated, work hard and have built amazing successful careers and spent hours on charitable boards making our communities a better place to live. Why not showcase men and women who increase awareness and do not fit into the stereotype.

I also agree with Annah that gay people are a part of everyday life for most of us in some context or another but I think that makes it natural that they should be represented on these shows and I don’t see it as being shoved down my throat in any way.

I understand where you’re coming from. I didn’t say that there IS or ISN’T a gay agenda… I was explaining why I THINK that some people call it that. I will say though, there IS a platform there….. for EVERYONE and everyone is taking advantage of it. The women use it to sell their products and brand themselves, Andy uses it to support the gay community, in part. I think it is smart, he has a place to bring awareness and create discussion. However, I would love to see it done in a more REAL way. I personally just feel like the story lines regarding gays to be as fake feeling as the story lines about the housewives. It IS such an important issue and I don’t want to see it exploited in the same way that the housewives are. Andy has a real opportunity here with Bravo and I would love to see him him bring this issue into a positive light. Call it a platform or an agenda, it is there and it is being used….. the reason it stands out and appears fake…. is because it is.

Saying ‘fag’ and ‘gay’ really was slang at one point. A lot of people spoke like that. NOW people are becoming more aware that it is derogatorily and is not helping the gay community take steps forward. Some people see this on their own and have adjusted, others may need to have it explained to them. When these words have been a part of your vocabulary for so long, it can be hard to cut the words from your comments right away. It slips out sometimes, you have to catch yourself. I really think Joe is trying. I truly don’t see Joe as a hateful, hurtful or gay hating man. I think he was just ignorant, in the literal sense.

I agree, there’s so much more to homophobia than a word or a comment, you have to look at the context of the person saying it and the general vibe of that person. I agree 100%. I think these days that people try to be so politically correct that they go overboard. My bil and younger sister are both gay and neither were bothered by the stuff that came out of Juicy’s mouth this season. Andy is such a hypocrite. I will never forget a few months back when the Real Housewives of New Jersey Facebook page had over 1,000 comments attacking Milania. He doesn’t seem to care that adults were calling her “bitch” and said she needed to be slapped around. Where is his sympathy for Milania?
I think Joe said that because everyone knows what a whore Greg is in New York. He slept with everyone and that’s why his hole is loose, not because he’s gay.

Kathy’s comment ” I hear lesbian’s show up with a u-haul” remark, or the toast he made at dinner that night….”to good fortuna.” I’m not even Italian,nor do I live in New Jersey, but I caught that snide remark. Heck, I’m not even gay and I found their remarks offensive. To boot…I saw a video on-line a few month’s ago, it was at some club in N.Y.C. where I guess MeGo sang On display. Anyway, Greg Bennett was there and the clip is.. of him on stage shouting out to Joe Gorga…(in the audience) “YOU (referring to Joey) can call us fagot’s, freaks and f….., WE don’t mind… yada, yada, yada!”
The thing is…I probably wouldn’t of thought the remarks by Koma & Sickie, or even the clip of Greggie shouting to JoGo “YOU can call us fagots” all that offensive and might even have saw the humor in it, but it’s the hypocrisy that just pisses me off! Clearly, they ALL kinda grew up the same! IMO… They ALL know that too!! They did ALL laugh…we saw that!
All season, we had to listen to and read blogs and posts saying things to Teresa like “You can’t have it both ways, so which is it Teresa.” They picked apart every little thing Teresa & Joe said….it was ridiculous! Well..in my book, it works both ways!!!! I honestly thought that Andy was gonna let that remark by Joe…go, because if he did bring it up, then he would have to bring up everybody else! Shaking my head over this….just shaking my head…..
I don’t think anyone pays lil’Joe enough attention to care what he prattles on about. He’s boring & he & Mego should never have been on the show & wouldn’t have if it weren’t for his sis. I think even Andy is smart enough to ignore someone like Joe Gorga.

I know this because my daughter’s best childhood friend is gay so we have lots of gay women and men in our home regularily and are involved in the gay community. In discussions with them about Andy/Bravo, they are appalled at how he’s promoting the old stereotypical gay persona on the housewives shows. It’s embarrassing for them and they HATE him for it. The people I know are intelligent, educated, professionals who want to be accepted as HUMAN BEINGS, not solely by their sexual orientation. Andy is for everything they’re against. He is not helping the gay cause with his despicable behavior. He’s hurting our friends and I’m pissed at him for that!! Also, Andy, gay people make jokes about straight people, too and you know it. Get off your damn soapbox and take a look at the bigot in the mirror. Just sayin.

I forgot to say, If Andy is so pro-gay and is promoting a Gay Agenda, then why don’t we see a gay houswife? Why are the only gays on Bravo the stereotypical gays that Andy likes to poke fun at? Give us a gay couple on the show, Andy. A real life, happily married gay couple with children who live normal lives. THAT would promote the gay agenda. Not what you do, which is humiliate them and make them look like fools on national TV, including yourself.

Dina’s brother’s wedding would have been a great choice for the Mazel of the season. He and his partner seemed very much in love, the wedding was beautiful and their vows were very touching and heartfelt. That wedding moved me to tears. Is Andy so blind that he can’t see what a positive message that wedding sent to people who have had little experience with gay people. Instead he gives the Mazel to a big sweaty, drunken, blowhard who is screaming she will cut someones tongue out. Rosie personally has given ammunition to the gay haters. Andy is a Jackhole.
I agree Lainie.Allowing viewers to see that gay people love as genuinely and with as much hope as their straight counterparts is a wonderful way to remove the misconceptions and barriers . The wedding was gorgeous and such a beautiful and happy occasion.

Jl you are so right. I have several members of my family who are gay and they really don’t get offended when they hear a gay slur (unless it’s directed at them to hurt them). Using slurs of any kind comes from ignorance and they understand that – they also appreciate the fact that the media is exposing this and educating people. Juicy is from a generation and community where throwing out gay slurs is commonplace. Don’t get me wrong, that s no excuse but I’m just saying. It has been brought to his attention that it’s hurtful and not acceptable and he has learned not to spew words like fag (as far as we can tell). Isn’t this what it’s all about? Live and learn and try to be a better person. Leave the guy alone for his past “transgressions” Andy – it’s over. By the way, I think it’s equally ugly to pick on someone or make fun of them for the way they speak, etc. but Andy sure doesn’t seem to be learning from his mistakes in this regard. Maybe Juicy is a little more civilized than Andy? Side note, my son (who does not watch the Housewives but was excited to meet a network bigwig) met Andy at a party and said he was very condescending and rude – said Andy acted like he was the funniest, cutest guy there but as the night wore on, most people were avoiding him.
