The Deborah Hospital is holding a singing competition which they refer to as the Deborah Idol Competition. According to the hospital’s August press release, “Melissa Gorga, star of ‘The Real Housewives of New Jersey’ and a pediatric patient at Deborah years ago, will attend the finals to meet the public.”
The release states in a separate paragraph that “Professional singers, songwriters and musicians will judge the prelims and finals,” so no idea if desperate housewife Melvin will be a judge or not.
Real: Love that the hospital calls the show “Desperate Housewives of New Jersey”!! LOL!!! TFC!! SH
Desperate Housewives of NJ is a much more fitting title than the ironically named “Real Housewives.”

Call me ignorant… but don’t people who have open heart surgery normally have scars down their chest? She’s always wearing low cut tops and I’ve never seen so much as a mark there….
I said the same thing Paul (way back when she started this nonsense). Someone asked her about it and she said she had the surgery from the back, but I’ve never seen a scar there either. She’s a liar….
That is kind of weird, I have never seen a scar on her back either. Maybe she covers it with makeup?

I remember it too. She said that her mother fought tooth and nail for so they didn’t leave the scar on her chest and up until then it had never been done before. I am pretty sure it’s true guys. I know a lot of people doubt her but I think this is legitimat.

If she had it as a young child the scar may lighten and get smaller as she ages.
Hi Lisa, it may lighten, but it stretches – it doesn’t get smaller. Even so, we’d still see a ripple in the skin or something. I had surgery on my leg as a kid… the scar does not disappear – no matter how badly one may want it to.
Having said that… I guess I’ll believe the hospital, but other than that…. I still support the fact that MeGo is pretty much a liar.

Lisa, I know two people that had open heart surgery as children, both of them have quite noticeable scars. Open heart surgery requires cutting through the sternum and laying open the incision; thus the term open heart. If MeGo was seven years old at the time of the surgery, it would have been at least 25 years ago – before less invasive procedures were being done and large staples were used to seal the incision. Those staple scars don’t go away.
If she indeed had a posterior thoracotomy, she’d have a substancial scar on her back as it would have also be sutured with staples.
MeGo has paraded around in a bikini and there are no scars on either her front or back. She’s got a fairly dark complexion, so the scars would be especially noticeable.
Not a fan of Melissa.. but my boys were preemies and I know they do surgery on the heart on the back to close the PDA (which shunts blood around the lungs when you are in the womb b/c you dont need oxygen) so maybe something like this?
My husband had a ventricular septal defect (a hole between the left and right chambers of the heart) corrected as a toddler and he still had the scars as an adult. The scars are there forever.

I don’t know that she is lying. As the daughter, niece, and wife of people who have had open heart surgery, I can tell you that there are scars. She didn’t mention why she had surgery. I think it is interesting that she didn’t say what was wrong with her for her to have had surgery.
I don’t think she is…aside from being the youngest in her family, I think this is one of the reasons her sisters hold her so dearly.

My niece had open heart surgery when she was 2 . Her scar now is only 2 inches and not that noticeable anymore. She’s Melissa’s age now. Melissa said something about her mother insisting they enter through her back so the scar would be less noticeable. I’ve never heard of that?
No matter which way you conduct a surgery, there will inevitably be scars. ESPECIALLY if that surgery was 15-20 years ago. Even my friend who had a similar type of situation for cancer when she was a child, her small scar is still noticeable from twenty years ago.
Thats right, I had open heart surgery for triple bypass and have vertical scar about 12-14 inches from chest area to slightly above belly button. She is probably exagerating….also my surgery was in 2009 and I probably less scarring that older surgeries. You also get other scars as well, on leg if they have to remove veins and two horizontal near belly button where they had something in me to drain something. As much skin as she shows some of that would show tanned or not. .
I had a large scar on my back where I was stabbed (more like slice). It has paled over the years and is now not so raised but you can surely see it and its been 30 years.
And I mean’t have as obviously it is still there. I like to make up stories when people ask like Oh that? Old polar bear injury.

And another thing, that would have been 28 years ago when the scaring would have been a lot more noticeable than it would be today. We have all see her half naked and no scars.

That is too funny you got me. I actually thought it was going to be her “horrible kitty” costume she used to use in her opening credits in S-1. This may have been the inspiration for MeHo’s character in Maya’s painting yesterday.
I guess I missed that episode too, I honestly don’t remember hearing ANYTHING about this at all & you would think she’d be using her surgery story/scar to help other’s. Wear that scar proudly!

(Ok, i’m strange, I like scars, don’t think they should be covered w/make up or other for something someone in her position can use to reach out/help other’s)~but that being said, we’d all be screaming if she acted anything like PT HW to hear the story over & over.
I’d actually like to hear a/b her surgery/why she had it/any current health issues, etc.
I remember her showing her scar to Caroline (i think) she said her Dr. didn’t want to give her a scar down her chest so he went in under her shoulder blade area. She does have a scar. I am not a Melissa fan, but I did have surgeries as a child…it aint no picinic.

Tried to find a link on Bravo but couldn’t. I think the discussion about her surgery took place at the hookah birthday party for Richie Wakile. Caroline noticed the scar and Joe Gorga told the story about Melissa having heart surgery as a child. Melissa said her mother didn’t want her to have a scar on her chest and insisted that they do the surgery from her back.

We r similar in age so timing was prob similar .. I don’t like MeGo due to she is biggest liar but feel for her having surgery @ such young age.. She must b fine now cuz we don’t hear anything about it?

People throw around the term open heart surgery. Maybe she had heart surgery but it wasn’t open heart…not as large of a scar.
Thats right. People do throw around the phrase open heart. There are many different surgeries pertaining to the heart….open heart is only one of them. And I can tell you this……no way did any surgeon go in through her back to avoid a scar because her mother insisted. If they went in through her back, its because it was the better option. often with young children, because of their underdeveloped bodies, surgeries are performed differently than with adults.

I’m sorry she went through something like that as a young child. I am also sorry that because she went through something like that, she feels entitled instead of grateful. She, as an adult and a mother now, should be aware of the fragility of life.
The above article “Deborah Heart & Lung Center” that MsSH provided for us says there now are choices as to where the incision can be made (ex: under the breast) but I am not sure if this was an option at that hospital when Mel was a youngster.
But the point is: many have doubts b/c of her lying about her past.
If our questions upset Mel, then she is not used to being Bravo’s HW on display, on display.
young children are cut under the arm and and the heart is accessed through the rib cage….ribs are soft enough to be moved aside without having to break them
My dad had open heart about ten years ago. He’s got a big visible scar going down his chest. Looks lke railroad tracks.
Awesome hospital (my mom goes there) that depends on donations. Would be nice if Melissa made a nice donation,especially since she was a patient. I wouldn’t mind hearing her brag about donating money.

Famewhore Mego did talk about her heart surgery last season but this is the first time anyone has heard about her supporting a charity. I guess now that Tre has Nephcure – Mego has to find a charity to support as well….once a copy-cat ALWAYS a copy-cat.

I cannot be sure she had surgery cause wasn’t there…But, I would think if she did she might have made a bigger deal out of it to get more attention. I don’t think she would miss any opportunity to work that into a play for sympathy on her part. As most have said she has lied so much its hard to tell when she isn’t lying. Now days you can cover scars as well as have removed if you have the money and good doctor. Regardless, I don’t think the hospital would back up a liar as the truth would get out and ruin their chances of getting charitable contributors. And truly I dont care, dont care…..
