AVIVA DRESCHER: Wanted $10 Million!… Received $1.2 Million In Out-Of-Court Settlement…in 1981… “Vivs” is 41, NOT 38!

June 19, 2012  9:40 am   August 14, 2012  4:00 pm

NOTE:  For anyone “confused” about the age of this particular New York Housewife… do the math!   “Vivs” was 10 years old at the time of her accident in 1981, she is NOT 38… she is 41.

A big part of Aviva Drescher’s storyline on the Real Housewives of New York is her leg… or lack of one.

Some research has revealed that Aviva was doin’ somethin’ she shouldn’t have been doin’ in an upstate NY farmer’s barn when she was 10 years old, which resulted in her foot being caught in machinery which cleaned out cow stalls.  Aviva’s foot was reattached at the hospital; however, was amputated again when infection set in.

Aviva’s family sued for over $10 million… they settled for $1.2  million…

Article date:  April 1, 1981

About Stoopid Housewives

The Real Housewives franchises have become a guilty pleasure for me and I've become intrigued by 'normal' people who would agree to put their lives on television for public display and scrutiny. What are their motives to divulge their daily routines for viewing audiences to approve, reprimand, berate, castigate, attack; basically abuse and judge? Oh, just forget about the above nonsense... the majority of these people are just stoo-pid.

    I just adore Aviva…

    • sd says:

I’m trying to like Aviva but she seems like a kiss a$$ to me, maybe she is just trying to get to know people right now. I will hold out till the new girls get more comfortable before I solidify my opinion. So far Carole is my fav.

      • panda says:

I agree. Carole is the best. Driving around NY in a convertible listening to music with the top down sold it for me. She makes 99% of other housewives seem like conceited, dull, fools.

  2. donewithbravo says:

I’m shocked! That was a HUGE settlement for back then!

  3. Isalove says:

I’m not a fan of aviva! I’m liking heather just because she didn’t invite Ramona to London 😁

  4. madepiley says:

Alright Ima just gonna say it. I bet the lil Techiner girl was never able to have anybody over to play ever again after that.

    • sd says:

ya know it’s kind of funny cause Avivia comes off all waspy and hoity toity with her Vasser degree and her Miami penthouse but now all I see is this little blond headed buck tooth girl riding around on the dairy cow stall sweeper. I like it when people can embrace where they came from and still be proud of that no matter how high they climb. I think she likes to sweep that under the rug a bit. I also think she does a poor job of covering up the fact that she is eaten alive inside that her ex Harry slept with everyone.

      • madepiley says:

Yeah the no wedding ring thing was a bit of a stretch.

      • Butch says:

The article states in the first line, “a ten year-old Manhattan girl”. So I don’t think she has any rural roots to embrace. I also recall her saying she was born and raised in Manhattan… or was that one of Heather or Carole?

Btw, love Carole! She’s like a cross between Carrie Bradshaw and Samantha Jones rolled into one person. I hope the show doesn’t make me hate her soon, lol.

      • bren says:

so true about Harry It kills Avivia that two of the other housewives slept with Harry. lolol

  5. ninjapanda1 says:

wait a NY minute….. I swear in a talking head, Viva La Thresher said that she and the little girls whose family they were visitng, snuck out to go play in the barn early in the morning. The article says this happened in full view of adults, while the kids rode the s*it machine.. Im gonna go back and watch that talking head….

    • ninjapanda1 says:

I don’t need a Physical Therapist! In the scene where Thresher and Sonja are getting pedi’s. She tells the story and says they snuck out in the early morning to ride it and the oher little girl shut off the machine. No mention adults were there. God when will people learn to tell the truth. And which is the truth. What they stated in their settlement is very different from this story.

  6. madepiley says:

My son had a friend over once and he(alone) took off down to the dock to fish at night. My son didnt know where he was.We noticed the fishin pole was gone. I aint too keen on night fishin alone in the dark where nobody knows where you are and visions of that kid(middle schooler) somehow slipping into the lake flashed in my mind. So I paniced and acted a bit like a wild lunatic about it departure from my normal laid back lunatic. It wasnt until I got him to come back in that I started thinking about all the libilities involved.

  7. ninjapanda1 says:

Yeah exactly. Everything we do\or fail to do is a liability. SH- what year was this article I didn’t see a date and how old old is Thresher? She looks 45.

  8. ninjapanda1 says:

Duh.. thanks Jayelle i need glasses i guess. So she’s like 38 ish. I am 42 and I look younger than her. She look like one of those women that has always looked older, mature, maybe it’s the jawline or surgery.

  9. iamstefani says:

I was pretty surprised when I found the article about the circumstances of the accident. And her dad was part owner of the dairy farm. Lots of great details there, glad u guys found it interesting!

  10. Daisy says:

I’m not sure how they were able to find fault with the manufacturer. Is it just me, or is this just unnecessarily vengeful on the part of the Teichners? It’s not like she was operating the machine as intended and then she got caught in it. Everybody is so sue-happy…

    • Va Fa Napoli says:

From what i read in the article, I think avivas lawyer was stating the appearance of the machine looks like a merry go round. So thats why i think they found fault with the manufacturer. Although I completely agree with you, she should have not been on the machine…. she would still have her leg. But i think that was how her lawyer blamed the manufacturer. I know when i was a kid, if my parents told me not to do something doesnt mean i always listened…lol
I also think her losing her leg might be a big part of her phobias. While most of us walk around with both our legs she has to endure things we never even have to think about. But , i will say this, she does go a little too far with it all!

      • Pompano Ann says:

When you put everything aside and just think of her as a child and this life changing accident; you can only imagine what she has been through in life and so much she has had to overcome. I agree with you Va Fa, she may have phobias and who knows what else that will be with her the rest of her life, What I see on TV, she looks great and handles the issues at hand well, even when Ramona was asking her a lot of questions.

        • Maggs says:

I agree Pampano Ann. I cannot even imagine the horror of that accident. I feel for 10 year old Aviva AND *Ah-em* 38 year old Aviva as well. Do I find her personality annoying as hell? Yep. But I give her so much credit for what she has been through.

          • KateH says:

I think Aviva is beautiful. That enlarged HD photo is absurd! That type of photograph would make anyone look rough! I appreciate Aviva’s openness about her phobias. So many of the other HW’s try to hide their’s by attacking others! Like Ramona, for example! Sonja has a huge fear of not appearing rich, sexy and gorgeous, which actually back fires on her! LuLu is so insecure, not comfortable in her own skin without her title and all of her airs! The list goes, on and on…

        • Va Fa Napoli says:

          ty :)

          • Va Fa Napoli says:

I also think her prosthetic legs look amazing. I never knew that fake legs could look that good. At least i know that if i lose one, i could still look hawt :) (sorry i dont know many amputees so i was ignorant on this subject) LOVE this site!!

  11. madepiley says:

Very hard to believe she is 41 years old. I know it says she was 10 when she had the accident though. Is it possible that they fibbed on her age for the lawsuit???? A maimed 10 year old is a little more sympathetic to a jury then a maimed 16 year old. Specially when the kid was someplace she wasn’t supposed to be playing with equipment she didn’t have permission to be on. I am just gonna have to wrap my mind around the fact that she is indeed 41 years of age. Gracious sakes alive.

    • Maggs says:

I don’t think it’s possible to fib her age in a lawsuit. The defense attorneys would have that figured out immediately. But man are you right about her not looking 41 let alone 38! I figured her to be around 45. She has a rockin’ body but she should have taken better care of her skin.

    • jboret says:

If you read the article it says the accident occurred four years earlier, so it is not clear if she was 10 at the time of the accident (1977?) or when it was settled as per the article date (1981). That wouldn’t make her younger than 41 now though, and quite possibly even older.

  12. heather says:

SH you’re on a roll. Aviva is going to get your ass for this. You posted her settlement amount, real age, and a picture of her with grey/blond hair. HA! I’m sure those alien fingers are phoning home to Reid right now about you.

  13. Buck Henry says:

What does Aviva’s husband do for a living? I know she is fighting for child support from Harry, but if her husband is making major money you would think that she wouldn’t want to bother with him.

  14. lisab says:

The article is dated in 1981 but says the accident was 4 years ago. That would make her 10 in 1978 which would make her 44 now.

    • lisab: Thank you… however, after re-reading the article, “Vivs” is not 44, she is 41. TFC!!! SH

      • whodothesepeoplelooklike?? says:

I’m going to assume that the “ten year old girl” receiving the settlement was for an accident that happened “four years ago”–when she was six, give or take.

        • whodothesepeoplelooklike?? says:

Either way–41 or 44 she don’t look so good!!!

        • madepiley says:

Aviva has been a strange bird from way back if she thought that a fancy cow chit belt looked like an “attractive nuisance” or whatever.

          • madepiley says:

oh laws this one needs to be removed. I didnt listen to the whole thing before I post. So Sorry.

          • madepiley says:

Never underestimate the lack of common sense from a city girl born and raised in New Yawk City.

        • desaba says:

Yeah that makes sense to me. Her Bravo bio says the accident happened when she was 6. Plus before I read the article here I looked up to see how old she was and I got back 41 as well.

  15. lisab says:

Whew, glad I was right. Haha. I have been reading the stories here forever but have never commented before.

  16. lisab says:

Thank you Heather!! I used to comment on another site but got reamed for a comment I made and I haven’t commented anywhere since. It’s nice to see that everyone is so nice to each other on this site even if their opinions are different!

    • heather says:

OMG me too. I think many of us have found this site for the same reason. I think this site is the nicest of them all.

    • lisab: Welcome! Now that you’re outta “Lurkerville” you cannot return! The majority of readers/commenters know da rules… only one change; no time for warnings any longer for misbehaving… very bad commenters will simply not be heard from again! Poof!! LOL!! TFC!!! SH

  17. reece says:

So did this Harry sleep with Lulu and Sonja while he was married to Aviva,or was it after they got a divorce?. And if it was after did she say why she had a prob with it since he is her ex?.

  18. runtheball says:

    She looks early 50s.

  19. lisab says:

Thank you SH. I really miss commenting about my guily pleasure, The Real Housewives!! Glad I found a site that doesn’t put up with crap. I love seeing everyone’s comments.

  20. kotagirl29 says:

I read the article it said that Aviva was 10 at the time of printing and settled for $1.2 mil for the accident four years ago. The age the give of a person in a news article is usually current age with a timeline provided as to the original incident. If what the newpaper says is true then she was six not seven at the time of the accident.

  21. Paula says:

I am thoroughly confused. They sued the dairy farmer but Aviva’s father was part owner of the farm.

    • Adriana says:

It’s probably a way of tapping in to the farm’s and the manufacturer’s liability insurance policies….

  22. Paula says:

OK. I must have been hallucinating this morning because I could have sworn I posted a comment under this but now I can’t find it.

      • Paula says:

I just did but I still don’t understand what was offensive about my comment.

      • Paula says:

I’m not trying to be difficult but I really and truly don’t understand what was inappropriate about my comment. I just started reading/commenting back in July and I didn’t think I was out of line with anything or have ever been out of line with any of my comments.

      • Paula says:

OK. So the only thing that I see that could even remotely be related to an infraction of the rules was that I asked a rhetorical question. I was in no way, shape, or form expecting that question to be answered. so, let me rephrase it.

I notice from the article that Aviva’s father was part owner of the farm and yet he sued the other owner or owners of the farm. I find that interesting.

Hope the way I have phrased it isn’t an offense of the rules because I don’t mean to do that! In the future, no question marks will be used in the posting of my comments!!!!! I promise!

  23. AnnaBell says:

It says here it happened in 1977

  24. Anna says:

The article does not say that the accident happened when she was 10. The article dated 1981 says that a ten year old girl received a settlement regarding an accident that happened 4 years ago (which would make her 6 at the time of the accident). On the show she says she is 41 and that her accident happened when she was 6. There are no discrepancies with her story and the newspaper article. Her constant whinging and harping on feeling hard done by is so boring that I hope she does not come back next season. She was a constant wet blanket throughout the entire season and I switched over to other more interesting things on my computer every time she was on.
