CARLOS KING: Reality Producer Talks About… “Reality Fights”… Says Reality Show “Not Scripted”

August 8, 2012  2:00 am   S2S...

NOTE:  WHY does anyone involved with the Real Housewives franchises always slip in the sentence, “The show isn’t scripted?”  We’ve watched numerous Housewives and producer interviews… they always insist on including this tidbit of info!  As if anyone is going to believe that these “reality” shows aren’t scripted!!!  FUNNY!

Carlos King… from Oprah to Housewives

Carlos King, who worked on all four seasons of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” talks about his behind-the-scene perspective on reality fights.

Carlos was on set when Sheree Whitfield tugged at Kim Zolciak’s wig on Season 1 of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” “That was my first time experiencing some hand-on-body action. So as a producer we’re all just so shocked and surprised it was happening,” Carlos recalled. “And of course if it ever got physical we would break it up.”

Once they get to know their cast, the producers can start to anticipate their actions.

While Carlos insists that reality shows are not scripted, he says his job entails getting the cast to confront difficult situations and people they may usually avoid. This role leads to producers being blamed for instigating situations that lead to fights.

NOTE:  Uh… would there be another conclusion???

NOTE:  ”KingDomlos” finally “unprotected” his twitter account!  The RHOA weren’t the only franchise to tweet Carlos… ALL of the Housewives from ALL the Bravo franchises tweet @KingDomlos, so it was a bit of a surprise to see his twitter account made public.  Apparently, he needs to get the buzz goin’ for VH1′s “Love And Hip Hop”… his twitter wallpaper used to be a photo of Carlos driving his red car;  the wallpaper is now the cast of Love and HipHop…

Carlos and his old boss, Oprah… talkin’ about ‘gayness’

About Stoopid Housewives

The Real Housewives franchises have become a guilty pleasure for me and I've become intrigued by 'normal' people who would agree to put their lives on television for public display and scrutiny. What are their motives to divulge their daily routines for viewing audiences to approve, reprimand, berate, castigate, attack; basically abuse and judge? Oh, just forget about the above nonsense... the majority of these people are just stoo-pid.

  1. Leon Benjamin says:

Reality TV is not scripted? Sure.

  2. Leon Benjamin says:

Oh and the hair pull between Sheree and Kim was season 2

  3. Bill says:

True, they may not be scripted(word for word) but they are set up aka pre-arranged situations and the HW are told to talk about certain subjects. Melga seems to be the main one that is really trying soooo hard to act. If it wasn’t for the gay clubs no one would be touching her lip synched crap. So why is his Carlos’ statement new or news worthy? Just trying to get the buzz going for Love & Hip Hop and the Witch Wives of Miami. I wonder if Mamma “drunk as a skunk” Elsa is still around. Lord help us. The wallpaper picture of the Witches looks like a bowl of sherbet ice cream I just tossed up.

  4. Lena1 says:

This guy is real tight with the Manzos.

    • Lena: YEP! CarlosKing is tight with a LOT of the HWs … not just the RHOA. Could only see the HWs tweets mentioning him; could not see his tweets to them, until he “un-protected” his twitter acct. Not positive, but it seems that he may have deleted some of his HWs tweets. TFC! SH

  5. Pat Johnson says:

    Carlos is full of crapola.

Each and every franchise is packed to the rafters with “fights”.

    Vicki vs Tamra/Gretchen/Slade
    Jill vs Bethenny/Ramona/Alex
    Taylor vs Camille/Kim/Lisa (for awhile)
    Teresa vs Melissa/Jacqueline/Caroline/Kathy
    Danielle vs Teresa/Caroline/Dina/Kim G
    Kim G vs Teresa/Danielle/Caroline
    Alexis vs Tamra/Gretchen
    Ramona vs LuAnn/Heather
    The Salahis vs Everybody else

The difference is when the scripted begins to blend into the unscripted that the lines begin to blur. When one cast member emerges from the pack and commands a little more attention than the others.

About that time when it’s “everybody for themselves” and the best way to keep score is the via Twitter and the talking head segments that overtakes the “love” with a boatload of “hate”.

“he says his job entails getting the cast to confront difficult situations and people they may usually avoid” like their old overies? Ramoner and Luann?

    • KateH says:

I think they call this “Produced” but not “scripted”. So the cast does not actually learn a script and recite lines and dialogue. But, scenes are set up, players are put together and situations are somewhat created so as to create drama. At least this is my understanding. I think we all pretty much already knew this!

  7. originalcyn1 says:

Like their old ovaries! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

  8. d b says:

Oh please, I can just see Bravo’s legal department parsing the meaning of the word “scripted”. Bravo’s own ads to recruit potential hausflies states something like “give your opinions” in other words that is the point of the show, voicing opinions they’d otherwise keep to themselves and/or confronting each other IS the show. It is NOT reality. So while technically not “scripted”, the shows are designed to create conflict among the participants. And when a participant is boring, they’ve gotta go.
what I find disturbing though is Bravo’s apparent requirement that underage children be part of the “drama”. Disgusting.

  9. old NJ girl says:

His account is now private again. If I remember correctly he was the producer for the first 2 years of RHONJ and left to go to RHOBH. What a difference 2 years have made to what was my favorite show.

  10. Che says:

I think I get it the shows are like Larry David’s ” Curb ” the show isn’t scripted but all the characters know what that episode is about.. What they do is just go with the flow and react to the situation. It’s set up to create conflict but unlike Curb this crap isnt funny .
