On the last Real Housewives of New Jersey, DonCaro took her “flawed” daughter to world-renowned nutritional doctor, Nick Perricone.
There were SO many things wrong with this very obviously set-up-by-Bravo-visit…
Caroline Manzo… “Do something with my daughter, Dr. Nick…”
First, why in the world does a 24-year-old need any assistance from her parent to visit a doctor? It seems as though Lauren was the reluctant party in this scenario as DonCaro proudly introduces her to Dr. Perricone.
Dr. Perricone, Caroline Manzo, Lauren Manzo… “If you don’t like my egg whites, maybe you’d rather have lapband surgery. You can talk to your mother about that…”
When Dr. P tries to converse with Lauren about her dietary habits, DonCaro speaks for her… Lauren adds that even though all the items DonCaro mentions are consumed, Lauren ‘doesn’t eat much.’
Then, the reason for the visit is discussed… the visit to Perricone is crucial to Lauren’s career as a makeup artist. DonCaro insists that the makeup artist field is very superficial and her little Lauren needs to look better if she’s to succeed as a makeup artist. DonCaro could not be more WRONG!
“Sure I’ll buy you a Chanel dress… as soon as the $53,999 check from Bravo clears.”
As someone who has experience in this field, your looks will maybe give you an edge in getting your first client, or your first job… after that, it’s word-of-mouth that builds your reputation. Once a client is satisfied with your work, it doesn’t matter what the artist looks like… as long as the client looks beautiful.

IMO, Lauren is perfectly fine just as she is. It’s DonCaro who thinks that Lauren’s looks will propel her into the upper echelons of the world of makeup artistry.
Chateau Salon… “Hey! What happened to that chick whose parents paid a non-refundable $89,559 to rent a makeup table for her?”
Lauren is correct when she says that she did not get respect at her little makeup table at Chateau Salon… and that everyone treated her as “her mother’s daughter.”

Because of Lauren’s very skewed perception of herself and her total lack of confidence in her abilities as a makeup artist, the day AFTER Lauren’s ‘Grand Opening,’ Lauren decided to pack up her tools and leave Chateau.
Lauren and BigAl Manzo… “Thanks for shellin’ out all the money to get my career started, Daddy! And thanks for all the Brownstone food, too!”
What the hell did Lauren expect??? Lauren IS her mother’s daughter and she should have been ecstatic that clients would be drawn to her little makeup table because of her mother! Being a newly-licensed artist, Lauren should have taken full advantage of being DonCaro’s daughter and PROVED her talent as a makeup artist by accepting client after client and letting the word spread.
IMO, Lauren was fearful and had zero self-confidence; Lauren used the very lame excuses of “no respect” and being “her mother’s daughter” to bug outta Chateau the next day.

DonCaro then drags her to Perricone!
You can clearly see that Lauren was not receptive to the very strict menu options presented to her.
AND.. Egg whites… YUM!!!!
Lauren later states, while looking at a table of cheese and sausages… and drinking wine… that if Perricone’s diet works, it works!
A sure indication that Lauren is setting herself up for failure …

this was HORRIBLE. Did DonCaro have no mirrors in her house? She isn’t exactly a size 2 either. She said that she wished it was one of her sons not her daughter cause being an overweight girl in this industry isn’t easy. That’s terrible. I think her daughter looks fine. I don’t think Bravo should have even aired this. That doctor put her on liquids & fruits, how is that healthy? Then Lauren joked about it being “like anorexia” that also isn’t a joke!

I agree, Ms. SH, I like the way Lauren looks; I’ve said it before — I love her big brown eyes she inherited from her father, and those dimples are sheer joy when she smiles. I really wish fo her that she did have the confidence. I am really rooting for her to be successful.
If she really did want to lose some weight, she could simply by making the commitment to eat a nutrient-dense, natural diet and moderate exercise. She has to be in the right place mentally and emotionally to take that initiative and make it stick. All this reality show drama taking place right now must make it harder as her family is once again front and center in living rooms around the country.

Even factoring age out, Lauren is, in my opinion FAR more attractive than her mother. I suspect Caroline likes her daughter’s self esteem right where it is – the basement. I think it’s there by design.
I think Lauren is very pretty and talented. I hope she gets some confidence soon and realizes the same. Her mother holds her back. It’s terrible.

no, you’re not being witchy. the way she is talking about her daughter is wrong, and in front of her face with cameras rolling is really, really wrong. her boys aren’t setting the world on fire like she seems to think. her sons aren’t thin. i’m not saying being thin is the goal in life, only that she’s delusional about everything with her kids and she’s doing harm raising kids that will be clinging to her like they did when they left for kindergarten.

I agree at some point Parents admit they did the best they knew how (standard apology) and make their kids responsible for their own lives. That means letting them struggle and fail and have the pride of overcoming mistakes. The hardest part about being a parent is stepping back and cheer-leading from the side lines.I am still waiting for my son to get his head out from his A$$ but love him any way. Granted it is from a distance because I am an enabler. The advantage about getting older is that you get to know your strengths and flaws learning how to cope with both.
I think the hardest thing to do as a parent is to let our children make mistakes and find the solutions on their own. Let’s face what we remember most in life are the challenges we have overcome. It is what self esteem is built on..Cheer leading from the side lines is a skill that every parent needs to cultivate, the earlier the better. At some point every parent utters the words “I did the best I knew how” the standard I love you but may have screwed up line. Caroline really needs to focus on her life and not on her children’s to feel accomplished.I recommend going back to school and taking taking a few courses before she diagnoses her daughter.

OC1…you are so right about cheerleading from the side lines. Culturally it is not always easy to apply to america’s young adult. It depends from where your grandparents came from. I’ve been on my own since high school and did not have the different cultural filters to deal with about what a good son or daughter does to make mommy and poppy happy. When you don’t raise your children to go out and make their mark in the world, they will always doubt themselves….it is hard to be a good parent to your own children if you are constantly doubting yourself. Don Carlione’s adult children have absolutely no motivation and appear to have an adversion to work. In spite of all of the benefits that they have been afforded, none of them are even remotely a success.
The story about Prince Albie flunking out of the first semester of law school, due to a learning disability never smelled right. He was smart enough to get a degree from Fordham and scored well enough on the LSAT to get into law school. It probably was just more work than he expected or wanted to do.
Chrittefur’s claim to fame is that he worked a whole year for his dad! Only one day a week off was just more than this able bodied twenty something could bear. Since daddy wouldn’t plunk down the cash for a stripper car wash, it was on to the grueling job at BLK Water.
Lauren didn’t even get one day of full work in at the business daddy set up for her.

I’m not a fan of Lauren’s laziness or sense of entitlement, but a mother pegging her daughter’s self worth and success to her waistline is beyond sick.
I totally agree. I am so sad that Lauren has been taught that her self worth is directly related to her dress size. I think she looked beautiful before. I fact, I think she looks better before than she does now. JMO.

Albie went to collage, Lauren went to trade school (cosmetology) Christopher is the only one that hasn’t furthered his education.
Christopher went to Clown College and majored in Cajun Accents.

Lauren looks great, good for her. No one says a woman HAS to be slim but we all can’t deny how much better we feel when we are. The problem is, NONE of these ‘diets’ work…. not in the long run. You loose the weight and then put it all back on and then some. The ONLY way to keep the weight off is to change you eating habits and exercise. You don’t have to live on salad and join a gym either. Just have 3 meatballs instead of 10, 1 slice of cake instead of the whole thing…. take a walk, use the stairs, it is all very simple and anyone can do it. I think it is horrible that Caroline is even allowing her daughter to try to take the quick and easy way out. There is NO quick fix for this situation. She’s setting Lauren up for more failure.
I totally agree, Annah, that these fad diets, the severe restriction diets, are more harmful than helpful. I lost weight by changing my eating patterns for life. I stay away from processed foods, junk foods, fast foods, and eat as close to nature as possible. I walk too. Of course I will have an occasional treat to satisfy a craving.
And I think young women seldom think longterm- about your heart, or your fertility, or your mental health! Yoyo dieting and anorexia can just destroy your body. A friend got a lapband young, no judgment, but had HORRIBLE health problems. I also think the accomplishing weight loss through hard work helps restore the self esteem lost being heavy. And the psychological issues of why you let yourself get that big are just covered with a lap-band band-aid.

People, call me negative but looking at that pic I think Lauren has had lapband surgery. I think the family did not want to take the heat for such a young girl, who imo, was over weight and not one of the people who have lapband because they are morbidly obese and can’t even walk well anymore. I think Lauren’s actions involving her weight in the first place, her career and everything else proves that she does not have the discipline to work that strict diet. Let’s face it even the almighty Caroline Manzo had the surgery and could not be bothered to even work out. SD, I think you’re right… I think that whole scene was filmed in order to cover up for the fact that the Don was taking her young, pretty daughter to get lap-band surgery. Just like the Don claimed she lost all her weight through “portion control” initially. This whole family makes me sick. The Don praises her boys constantly, but all you hear about Lauren is her weight struggle, and when is Vito going to marry her?
sd….my sentiments exactly with that comment about dieting being most difficult in the summer. Never heard that one before. The holidays and their aftermath are always the reference point for people who is contemplating making lifestyle changes, such as cutting back on food and alcohol, etc. Furthermore, most people are much more active during the summer months because the days are longer and the weather’s nicer so we’re outside and moving around more. That was just a lame-ass excuse on Lauren’s part.
Still, I could not help but feel badly for Lauren listening to her mother’s talk about wishing Lauren was a boy and all that other claptrap crap she was spewing. There is something very unsettling about that whole family. The mother has far too much influence on her kids while the dad, on the other hand, is strangely disconnected. One would think that at least one of the three kids would have inherited their father’s work ethic.
My niece is kinda chubby like Lauren, and she is one of the best hairstylest/make-up artists in Pa. She has a large following and word spread about her after she did a big wedding some years back. It’s NOT what you look like, it’s how GOOD you are at you’re craft. Lauren should try and make over Jax and Carolyn that should be a sample of how good or bad she is….
My last hairdresser was about 280ish and she did great hair(she did eventully lose all the weight after her dad died young) and was always booked My current hairdresser is about 50 with Pink Hair and she does great hair as well.
Every professional makeup artist I’ve seen a photo of has been fairly unattractive. Seriously. Rob Lowe’s wife for instance. You’d think with his looks he’d be married to a stunningly beautiful woman. Nope. She’s not ugly but not at all attractive and she is a makeup artist.
Fashion designers, similar thing. Often at the end of the fashion shows, the designer comes out and they look haggard, dressed basic and like crap and exhausted without makeup.
Caroline doesn’t know what she’s talking about, same as when she was giving Teresa advice on how to do a cookbook. Thank goodness Teresa ignored her.

I think she figures you get the big house because Albert worked hard at a successful business, and while that is true, most people achieve wealth through higher education, putting in years of hard work to become doctors, lawyers, professionals, especially in New Jersey, people working in the pharmaceutical industry or high-tech. Which is what makes the NJ Housewives so ridiculous, no one has any real accomplishment between all of them put together. I don’t knock Albert at all, catering is grueling, the restaurant business is grueling. But the children are disasters, and she isn’t even smart enough to know how screwed up they are. But what most offends me about Caroline is her sickening ranting about her menopause, while most women are WORKING through their symptoms, and she is acting like she is diseased. She does a huge injustice to women working through REAL diseases. You are right, she is lazy and ill-tempered, I find her disgusting. At least Tree WORKS.
That is such an excellant point. We all will or have gone through menopause just like we all have or will go through alot of unavoidable things that come with age. I think you’re being a little harsh here. In my opinion, Lauren was chubby, not even fat. The poor girl, regardless on your feelings about her attitude or anything, is still a young lady and such negativity directed towards her weight is unneccessary.
Also- she is far from 300 pounds, so a tweet where she mentions that she was a size 8/10 at filming.
The fact is, Lauren’s mother is the one making an issue of her weight and the rest of us are simply commenting on that fact.

Albie didn’t have decent grade point average in college. Wasn’t that a big focal point of an episode 2 seasons ago & no Law School would accept him. Not even sure he actually finished. Lauren studied to be a make up artist. I am not certain that makes her a cosmotoglist that takes longer if she had that licence she could have opened her own salon not had to go work for someone else, She didn’t get any respect because she hasn’t earned any. These “kids” everyone talks about are not kids. They are 23 almost 24, 25 & 26 turning 27. They are Caroline’s grown full fledged adult children, Caroline does not want to let go because it is all she has & it keeps her feeling young & relevant. Sad because I have never seen such spoiled ass grown kids in my life. They will never be success at anything on their own, inclusive of sticking to a diet until Mama Clownzo kicks their butts out the door and locks it behind her. She is the biggest of enablers & excuse makers. Lauren honestly is headed for a heart attack. All kidding aside Don Caro is no size 2 nor is Big Al & his Dad weighed 400lbs. Maybe the whole family needs to exercise something other than their mouths and start shutting their mouths to the wine the cheese the pasta the meatballs the sangwiches & all the goodies you see them powering down on each week, Chris Manzo ain’t no tiny Tim either & Jax is fatter but has had lipo on her legs that left her lowere thighs all lumpy. I am not starving myself on eggwhites, berries, and supplements! Why dont you jog and drink regular water! I’d hate for you to pull a Carie Wilson.
Bravista, I am doing the blood type diet also and really agree with you. This was after a silent heart attack and learning to eating right has saved my life. Correct food and exercise are the only way to be healthy, IMHO. Good luck Manzo young adults. I hope you will find the way.

I have always marveled at the Manzo kid’s sense of superiority over Ashley. Lauren quit her job that her mother paid for after one day! How is that for gratitude? They pick up their air of superiority from their mother who puts down Ashley every chance she gets and has since the show began. Horrible relatives.

I find it ironic that Caroline does nothing but bash Ashley to Jacqueline, talking about “iron hand”, and none of her three adult kids have a real job. Lauren quit her makeup business the day after her party, doesn’t go to school (as far as we know) and doesn’t appear to work – is she being shipped of to a family members to straighten up? I can’t believe she sits by and says nothing when Christopher and Albie mock Lauren and Vito about their weight. Christopher is not skinny, looks like he has a bubble butt – not attractive! Caroline has weight issues herself, why doesn’t she have more compassion for her daughter. Christopher and Albie can do no wrong, but Lauren doesn’t seem to do any right. I feel bad for Lauren, she doesn’t seem to have any self confidence, no ambition and her whole family just puts her down.

His cosminutricional omega 3 oils must be very special. On his website its $99 for 270 capsules. Its ridiculous ripoff steep! I don’t know how much they are in the USA, but in the land of expensive things & taxes I never pay more than $25 for 400.
He still graduated from Medical school did a Internship and a residency .

Bravista….the food plan (not diet) based on your blood type is awesome – thanks for mentioning it in case there are folks out there wanting to lose weight without surgery and “dieting”. You can find it on the internet. It is healthy and realistic and wish I had known about it before; went on it this year and love it. Lauren is really pretty and looks great; keeping our weight within normal range is healthier (diabetes is raging out there!) w/ the added benefit of our being able to enjoy activities we can’t when we carry extra pounds that are also hard on our hearts. Let’s just hope she and Vito marry, move off, and leave behind that toxic, non-forgiving, critical place they call home.

I’m indebted to the blood type diet also, but it is hard to follow unless the rest of the family is following it too. It is better when you go it alone.
Also, all of my friends who went the lap-band route are dealing with the Carnie Wilson struggle. Unless you deal with the underlying reasons for over eating, you will continue to struggle with it, even with a lap-band. Dealing with the real issues is the hardest part about overeating.
I see Don Caro is struggling with that now. She certainly doesnt look like the wall photo anymore after her miraculous weight loss.

Weight loss is over complicated, but its really very simple. Just consume fewer kilojoules/calories than your body uses. Don’t reward yourself for an hour at the gym with chocolate (unless you are fully aware of what you are doing).
The Manzos really missed a great marketing opportunity here: makeup for the larger lady. Not that Lauren really ever was that big – what, she needed to lose like 20 pounds? – and not like larger ladies really need their own makeup line or tricks, but it’s all about marketing. If she acted like an expert in bringing out cheekbones, eyes, lips, blah blah blah – she might have been able to segue into larger size fashion designer. Instead she’s striving to be another Jerseylicious smokey eye expert and how dull is that?

However, if Lauren wants to keep the weight off being on that type of diet is not going to cut it. I know from personal experience I was on basically liquid diet due to stomach problems I lost thirty five pounds and when I started to eat solid food it came all back!

Don’t shoot me, but I think Caroline is direct, and there has been much more talk than just what we saw. She wants her Daughter happy, and not only is Lauren going to boost her self esteem from the procedure, she will have less trouble conceiving later on, and let’s face it, BE HEALTHIER.

Honestly, she’s lost weight but I don’t think she looks THAT thin. Maybe a size 6 (average and healthy for her height.) but she’s no size 2.

Just read that Lauren was not going to reveal her lap band surgery…however someone leaked it to the tabloid so she had to come out with the story.
THis rings true, as i remember weeks ago someone asked Lauren how she lost the weight. Lauren tweeted back that she could not reveal due to contracts.
I think she had a contract with the Dr. on the show to pimp his diet crap, and plan to do lap band but not say anything…only acting as if that diet crap was all that she was on. Fastforward to the suppose leak….hence her doing the story. I am sure the Dr. is pissed now and that contract is null and void.
