LISA VANDERPUMP: LISA’S TOP FIVE ‘MUST HAVES’…EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE IN THEIR HOME!!…

POSTED FEBRUARY 18, 2012  2:22 am

Lisa Vanderpump… “You MUST have flowers in every room!  No flowers?  No problem!  Replace the flowers with twigs OR twisty-ties saved from your bread wrappers!  Just tie 47 of the twisty-ties together and then make flowers from them!  OR… just delicately place some dried up pork chop bones into a low vase!  It’s so easy… and no one will know the difference!!”

From Lisa Vanderpump’s Newsletter

It’s no secret that Lisa Vanderpump’s home is beautiful and elegant. So relax, sit back and let Lisa tell you the 5 things she couldn’t live without in her own home.

  1. An assortment of great vases. Vases are such an important element to your home, as flowers are one of the easiest and most beautiful ways to add glamour and romance to your décor. Invest in vases of different shapes and sizes and you will easily be able to add height and interest to a dinner table, a console, or a coffee table. Buy small bud vases for a single rose, long, low vases for centerpiece arrangements, and tall vases to make a statement on a hallway table.  You can easily mix faux flowers in with the fresh ones to ease up on the cost of fresh flowers, and nobody will know the difference!
  2. A great piece of art. Invest in a fantastic piece of art and design your room around it. This doesn’t have to be an extremely expensive piece—it can be anything from a postcard to a child’s drawing. The trick is to frame it and light it beautifully. If you spend the money on framing your item of choice incredibly and light it with a single spotlight, you can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear in no time. Some of the most expensive pieces of art in the world are simple line-drawings… sketches by Picasso and Matisse for instance… but frame it beautifully and it instantly becomes a masterpiece.
  3. A classic silver tray. It doesn’t have to be real silver but a classic silver or silver-plated tray is essential. Dress it up with a single rose in a bud vase, a bottle of wine, two wine glasses and some cocktail napkins and you’ll suddenly feel like you are in a 5 star hotel. It’s an easy way to add a touch of style to any coffee table.
  4. Light dimmers. There is nothing more essential to a home than light dimmers. Replace your light switches with dimmers and you can add immediate ambiance to any room in seconds. Light dimmers are easy to install but, if you can’t, then think about replacing your light bulbs with pink bulbs for a softer, more romantic glow at night.
  5. Candlesticks and candelabras. There is nothing sexier, more romantic or elegant than candlelight. Buy a few tall tapered candlesticks and place them in tall, glass or crystal holders. Add a few tea lights around the base to make it more interesting. Candles are a must –use them to add instant ambiance to your home.

An example of Lisa’s artwork.  If YOU cannot afford an original, such as this, just grab a pencil and a piece of paper and make your own!!

Lisa Vanderpump and daughter, Pandora… “We love this painting so much, we have copies of it in EVERY room!!!  Don’t cry, Pandorka… you and Jason are getting seven copies as your wedding gift!!”

About Stoopid Housewives

The Real Housewives franchises have become a guilty pleasure for me and I've become intrigued by 'normal' people who would agree to put their lives on television for public display and scrutiny. What are their motives to divulge their daily routines for viewing audiences to approve, reprimand, berate, castigate, attack; basically abuse and judge? Oh, just forget about the above nonsense... the majority of these people are just stoo-pid.

MS.SH, Pork chop bones. Where did you ever get that from? lol

  2. cherrylipgloss(formerlyknownashereswhat) says:

crud….I don’t have even one of those things(unless you count all those cheap glass vases that I have in my garage from flowers I’ve received)….and that picture looks like someone’s overweight grandmother….does this mean I don’t have klass?

  3. Stlrfan8 says:

If that painting is truly a portrait of Lisa, I think we can put the ‘butt padding’ theory to rest.

    Essentials For Your Home

    1. Piles of money strewn about your home
    2. A lighter or preferably a book of matches to burn the money with
    3. An ashtray or a shallow bowl to burn the money in
    4. A smoke detector in case the fire gets out of hand
5 A good quality fire extinguisher

Forget the overpriced shoes and shiny baubles. Nothing says, “I have made it and you haven’t ” like burning money for fun. The aroma of burning money is sweeter than any incense or scented candle.

E.B. Brilliant! On my way to bank to pick up a few things to strew about the house.

  6. Because everybody has a one acre rose garden in their yard. I like you Lisa, but you live in a pink bubble.

  7. VegasChick says:

What’s next? Vanderhump knockoffs at a Walmart near you?

  8. omg, Tray-whore’s book is #15 on the non-fiction New York Times bestseller’s list. I kid you not. re
~pick up your virtual barf bag here. What does this say about our society?

    • three: Shana’s #15 place on the NYTimes list is the result of all the freebies given out to audience members at her media appearances. TFC!! SH

      • That makes more sense. I couldn’t imagine peope were knocking each other over to buy this dreck.

      • Kiyoshigirl says:

I read elsewhere that those attending must buy a copy. Is that only for those wanting their book signed? Otherwise two days ago I checked Amazon’s sales rankings and she had only sold 336 copies via Kindle and there were no stats for regular book sales. How many books does one have to sell to make it to #15 on NYT best seller list?

        • anne_000 says:

Those attending the Grove book signing in LA had to buy her book. But the events at which her books are given away could be at interviews (like at Wendy William’s show whose audience members got a free copy of her book) or other public speaking events.

Got me cracking up w/this post Ms. SH!! :) Pandorka!
Love Lisa…elegance doesn’t mean pricey. I’ve made some of her recipes which were delish. She has some good points for entertaining & decorating.

  10. RomoSheDiNT says:

Lisa’s adorable with her decorating advice, but there’s a lil tornado that lives in our home… he’s 18 mos. Ima just tell y’all right now that there are no and will be no cocktail napkins or single roses… a bottle of wine for just in casers on our coffee table. Uh thank you! Just common sense.

I wonder if anyone’s ever considered writing an easy, inexpensive, low mantenence guide for home decorating/recipes for families with small children (particularly single parent households). With tight budgets and little time, I imagine some families might like a quick and easy way to make their home “company” ready.

Am I crazy for suggesting this?

      • RomoSheDiNT says:

        Crazy? No.
Just tell me when you are finished writing that awesome book of yours! :-)

        • SexyCoolBadGirl says:

Wish I was that creative enough!

Though when I babysit for a friend or relative I do try to tidy their home a bit. Maybe cook them a little something to eat later. Heck, just fixing up leftovers can help! :)

Your not crazy at all SCBG…..I studied interior design in college and it gets very frustrating because people get paid not at a base rate but as a percentage of the final costs. There is no reason for applying your skills for a reasonable amount of money. It always frustrated me and I never could never enjoy the money side of decorating. What I can pass along to make a home company ready is to organize your space so that everything as a place and you don’t have to move stuff around just because you have company. I did a lot of decorating for my friends at target. It had the best selection with a sense of coordinated style. Color coordination throughout the house is so important …make the rooms flow with a coordinating color with splashes of bright accent colors.

  12. Lisbeth says:

Actually you can take many of Lisa’s ideas and simplify them without spending a fortune. I buy fresh flowers at the grocery store, separate them and put them all over the house in inexpensive containers. They even look cute in old Mason Jars. IMO having plants, a few fresh flowers, candles and books in a room makes it look homey and comfortable. All of those can be done very inexpensively.
Everything in my home is comfortable and I don’t worry about spills etc eventhough I have many antiques. A home is to be lived in not looked at like a museum. We have so many people who just drop in that I try to keep everything set up for good conversation. I also keep some good coffee, tea, wine, beer and snacks so I can set up for guests quickly and easily. It makes life easier and more pleasant to be prepared so you can enjoy your home all the time and serve guests when they drop by with little money or effort.

    • Kukulet says:

I agree with you. Lisa’s advice might not fit every lifestyle, but it’s well intentioned and adaptable…she clearly sees her home as her refuge and wants to advise others so they can have the same.

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” That’s a very old quote from British designer William Morris…but still a good principle.
