Last night’s airing of the Real Housewives of New Jersey led to the FCC fining Bravo the largest fine in the history of television and the FCC.
All tallied, the fine amounted to $47 million… split between
- Bravo
- NBC Universal
- Comcast
- Andy Cohen, personal suit
- Teresa Giudice
- Joe Giudice
The reason for the fine? It was the tone of last night’s subjects on RHONJ. Andy Cohen, producer of RHONJ, was held responsible and fined for making the final decision on what airs. In particular, Tree Joodice bringing up sexual content at the cabin in the Catskills. The letter to Comcast/NBC Universal from the FCC focused on Tree and Joe’s conversation regarding who is best at what and CameraTree speaking about a sex toy.
The majority of the fine ($35 million) was because of this:

I agree with posts from above. Why hasn’t the FCC stepped in on other shows with other flagant mentions of things sexual? Frankly there are commercials that appall me, when I’m sitting down to eat my dinner that I don’t want to see. I don’t tune in to watch the shows, but the commercials still make me see highly offensive and outright gross, subject matter. Where are they then? Why the singular focus on this particular show? It isn’t on until 10pm and I didn’t think was any worse than things I’ve seen on other HW shows as well as other daytime Television shows. Makes NO sense.

What you said there is it. Its your blog and you have to do whatever you decide to maintain law & order.
“No attacking” (except Housewives-right?), and no foul language”, are your guidelines but we all know how hard you work on this site and in my opinion, you don’t need to be forced to explain any decisions that you make regarding comments.
If someone is banned or put in “time-out”, that’s up to you too. If you want to let us know that someone is blocked-that would be extra work for you. Again, up to you but most times it is obvious when you are being spammed.
Why let them try to stop the discussion by forcing you to do extra work that has nothing to do with the topic?
I think that you should add “overlord” to your rules permanently. That way everybody understands that SHW will not be side-tracked by BS, and we can either accept that, or not.

Since I’m being pressed, . I’ve seen people post their opinion on something (myself included) only to have several of the “regulars” jump on them for having an original thought which didn’t line up with the “regulars” .. I’ve also seen folks being patronized and condescended to and seen folks playing keyboard commando and say things which they would never have the nerve to say to someone’s face – There is only one other blog which I ever frequent so I really have no basis of comparison –
The only thing I have with which to compare it is my organization’s fb page which, as I said, has over 64K fans and is focused on an entirely different area.. perhaps because it’s a more serious topic, perhaps because I don’t feel the need to have my ego stoked by my “followers” , perhaps just because I’m a bitch, to me, the vibe here is cliquey , if one doesn’t pandor to the “host”, tell her awesome she is and agree with the opinions of the “regulars”, it’s just best not to post at all – That’s just my personal vibe … but, as I said, the recaps and some of the posters are hilarious, the articles always a great insight to the “behind the scenes” and the whole thing, just a great diversion ..

On Carol, I’ve never seen anyone on pain meds have the ability to talk and type on and on. The only subject she couldn’t elaborate on was HWs, which is what readers want. Carol’s ramblings threw the site off and for example, yesterday and I quote Kelly, “Was weird, just weird!” I had sex ed already, I’m good there. When I saw that was the topic on that page and that’s where everyone was, I wasn’t offended/wasn’t interested so I left the site for a while. That’s what Carol did. Who knows how many other fans she chased off? Re: Holy calling our “cliche” viscious and catty and naming Click as kind of the 2nd in command? I recall Holy being attacked by a commenter not too long ago and it was Click that defended her. That’s what Click does on this site. She’s not catty, but protective of the regulars, fans of SH’s and welcomes the newbies. I had a good time talking HWs with Holy I hope she comes back.

1)This joke story would make alot more sense if the update(punchline) was timestamped (like all the other updates on this site that have timestamps) so everyone who didnt happen to be online when the story originally “broke” could follow the timeline. Just sayun.
2)Time stamps on the comments of commenters on the the other story that contained the comments that lead to mayhem are very telling in and of themselves. Especially in regards to when apologies where made and how they were received and responded to.
